Belle Meade Madeira Cask Finish

Belle Meade Madeira Cask Finish is our 2nd edition of Quick Sips. Quick Sips is meant to provide you with immediate impressions of whiskies we encounter during our daily wanderings. No notepads or lengthy revisits – just our honest, un-cut opinion on the whiskey we drink.

Sip #2: Belle Meade Madeira Cask Finish

Paid: $13 (1.5oz)

Color: Deep reddish amber

Nose: Cherries, chocolate, baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg)

Palate: The entry is sweet with dark cherries, vanilla, and subtle oak. These flavors carry over to a medium-to-long finish with rye spice, rich dark fruit, and well-balanced tannins.

Conclusion:  A worthy addition to the Belle Meade lineup. The Madeira cask contributes an intriguing, earthy sweetness that differs considerably from port and sherry finishes. The problem here is the price, which can range from $80-$90. At $50 I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, but there are some truly phenomenal whiskies in the $80+ category. If moneBourbon Sippers Rankingy isn’t an issue for you then buy away, but I would recommend trying it first if your budget is tighter.
